Counting the two crossovers Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator 2 (2007), this movie is the eighth installment of the Alien franchise. However, since Prometheus (2012) and this movie have established the backstory to the original Alien (1979), most people no longer count the crossovers as canon, and that would make this the sixth Alien installment.
