The movie was shot in a standard 4:3 aspect ratio (not widescreen). The top and bottom of the screen was then cropped in post production to create a fake widescreen look, which gives the film it's undeserved criticism for bad cinematography. That decision was made by the film's producer, Joseph Zaso, who made a habit of doing that to the films he worked on. The director of photography, Hugh Daly, was furious at this decision because it made a lot of his shots look horribly off subject, sometimes cropping off an actor's head.
