The movie was planned to be directed by Luigi Zampa in 1949. However, the Italian government discouraged the production because they didn't believe the plot was appropriate. Zampa, who already had problems with censorship for the movie L'onorevole Angelina (1947) always concerning the role of a policeman, left the project and the movie was then realized by Mario Monicelli and Steno.
