Although the premise of the special is clearly based around the lockdowns and quarantines that came about from the COVID-19 pandemic, the pandemic is never explicitly mentioned. The closest Bo Burnham gets to talking about it is when he's discussing how he was getting close to performing onstage again before, as he puts it, "the funniest thing happened."
