A possible theory to explain why in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) Thanos won and in Endgame he lost could be that in Infinity War Thanos was following a perfectly coordinated strategy to get the Infinity Stones and fulfill his plan for erasing the half population of the universe. However, in this movie he realizes that his mission succeeded and that Avengers traveled back in time attempting to revert it, he turns maniac and vengeful, losing the control of the situation and finally being defeated.
