Many of the force abilities shown or spoken of in this movie can be found in the James Lucerno Star Wars novel Plagueis, such as using the force to heal, Sith's spirits jumping from their dying body to their apprentice, or even transferring their essence into a clone body (e.g. the many Snokes in a tank seen at the beginning of the film).
