During production, George Lucas referred to this movie as a "Disney movie", trying to capture the whimsy of classic 1950s Disney family movies, one of Lucas' favorites being Robinson nell'isola dei corsari (1960). Coincidently, more than thirty years after the release of this movie, the Walt Disney Company would acquire Lucasfilm, Lucas' production company, including all rights to the "Star Wars" stories and characters for four billion dollars, thus the movie actually became a Disney movie in 2015.
