When David attacks Daniels, there is a nod to Blade Runner (1982). Daniels stabs David under the chin with her husband's old-fashioned horseshoe nail that she was wearing as a necklace, then David says, "That's the spirit!" In Blade Runner, Roy Batty, the last surviving replicant, forces the same kind of nail through his hand. Then, when Deckard hits him with a pipe, Batty responds by saying, "That's the spirit!"
