After many failed attempts at making either a sequel or reboot to the film, Sony Pictures would move on to produce a remake in October 2022. On October 11, it was announced that a remake of the film under Sony was at the works, with Euphoria (2019) actress Sydney Sweeney playing the lead role and executively producing.
