Larraín summed up: "The idea behind the film, was to explore all the layers of Jackie, with the feeling of it being not so much a timeline, but slices of memory, the disparate pieces of a life, the ideas and emotions that create us, and there's just one single thing that pulls them all together: Natalie as Jackie."
