Nicki and Lizzy weren't siblings in the original script, just best friends. Kimberly Pierce rewrote the characters as twin sisters when Karissa and Katie Strain won the roles in the audition, and partially based them on the Thibodeau sisters in the novel, and the Wilson sisters in the original film (who themselves are based on the sisters in the novel).
