The scene in which Sam "Bulldog" Burnett (James Stewart) finds the bull dead had to be re-shot because director Andrew V. McLaglen believed the fake cow they used on the first shot did not look real enough. The scene was shot later, in warm weather, and salt was brought in to look like it was found in the snow. The problem was solved when they showed only a small portion of the bull buried in the salt.
