The film's distributor, 20th Century Fox, and the publisher of the book on which it is based, William Morrow, became sister companies in 1999 when Fox parent News Corporation purchased the publisher from Hearst, making it an imprint of HarperCollins. The subsequent split of News Corporation in 2013 made HarperCollins part of a new company under the News Corporation name, while 20th Century Fox remained part of the old News Corporation, now known as 21st Century Fox. Most of the latter company, including 20th Century Fox, was subsequently purchased by Disney in 2019, with TCF later becoming 20th Century Studios.
