A captured V-1 missile is seen when the recruits are being marched by as the pulse jet engine is "test fired". Why a V-1 would be at Fort Bliss in 1953 is never explained in the movie. However, after World War II over a hundred German rocket scientists were sent to Ft. Bliss and they participated in test launchings of V-2 and other rockets. In the 1950's, when this movie was filmed there on location, Ft. Bliss was the site of numerous live fire exercises by Army troops using a variety of missiles.
