The line "The Snozzberries taste like Snozzberries" uttered by Geoffrey Arend character when he was overdosing on shrooms is a reference to Willy Wonka e la fabbrica di cioccolato (1971). In 2012 an article on the website Cracked linked Snozzberries to male genitalia, posthumously assigning a whole new meaning to that quote. In actuality, Snozzberries had been a running gag in the Roald Dahl of Will Wonka fame works for years and was used as early as 1948. Snozz (Schnozz, the official spelling since 1984) is Slang for nose, so a Snozzberry is a booger, this slang word reached its peak popularity in the 1960s and so this play on words would have made sense to the readers of the time when Willy Wonka was being released. The Cracked article even alluded to the fact that Dahl was referring to a nose by having the last line from the sourced book (My Uncle Oswald) be "It's like putting a twitch on a horse." which most readers would overlook because the prior lines were talking about how to handle a man who's getting aggressive while having intercourse. That line does make it clear that the appendage Dahl was alluding to was, in fact, a nose because a Twitch is a device that is put in a horse's nose to control its movements.Ultimately though, it was probably meant to be a double entendre as well as a callback to his prior works. as the novel was meant for an adult audience. In the end, most people didn't get the memo, and the "Fact" that "Snoozeberry=dick" now persists in the public conscious being spread by uncaring websites and youtube channels.
