The British army officer accuses the German army of creating and using chemical warfare. While Germany did first use chemical warfare on both the eastern and western front, the allies had developed and began using their own chemical weapons from 1915 onwards. By 1918 (when the film is set) they had used it to more of an extent than Germany.
