Colonel Tanner is asked which country was on America's side. He replies '600 million screaming Chinamen' to which Darryl replies, "Last I heard, there were a billion screaming Chinamen." Colonel Tanner coldly replies, "There 'were'" dousing the fire in alcohol causing a huge flame. This implies the Soviets used nuclear weapons against China. It also highlights that during the early 1980s, the relations with the People's Republic of China and the United States were thawing with President Reagan visiting in 1982 and allowing the Communists to purchase American military equipment.
