At the beginning of the movie, there is an incident where a young Dade Murphy is on trail due to a virus he released which crashed over 1507 computers including wall street. A real life incident similar to this occurred in1988 which did exactly the same thing.It's known as the Robert Morris Worm and the effects of this worm were even more destructive as what was depicted in this movie as it crashed over 2000 computers, 6000 UNIX machines were infected and the cost of the damage at $100,000-$10,000,000 alone.
