In the film, Bruce Wayne describes his butler Alfred Pennyworth as his only family. In the comics, Alfred has been depicted as raising Bruce on his own, and he is portrayed as the closest thing to a surrogate father that Batman/Bruce has ever had. While the comics have depicted a number of Bruce's uncles and aunts as his past legal guardians, most origin stories tend to ignore their existence.
