Jacob's suicide cult could possibly be a reference to the Heaven's Gate cult with the subtle reference to Jonestown mixed in there. Heaven's Gate because of the outfits and black and white shoes his cult was wearing and Jonestown because of the Kool-aid. Founded in 1974, Heaven's Gate committed mass suicide in 1996. The black and white shoes they were wearing with their black tracksuits were a line of Nike Decade shoes, but were taken off the shelves and had ceased being made, as Nike didn't want its shoes to be associated with a suicide cult. The shoes were purchased specifically for price, not appearance, but Nike didn't want to take any chances and soon discontinued the line.
