During the climacteric battle one of the US destroyers has the hull number 212. DD-212 is the USS Smith Thompson, a Clemson-class destroyer intentionally sunk following a collision with USS Whipple in July 1936. The hull number for the USS Cassidy is 298. DD-298 was the USS Percival, also a Clemson-class destroyer, decommissioned in 1930. Neither ship could have been in a naval battle in 1942.
