Arnold Schwarzenegger declined to reprise his role of Conan for "Conan the Conqueror" (later rewritten as Kull - Il conquistatore (1997)) to star as Mr. Freeze in this film. Ralf Moeller, who plays one of Mr. Freeze's asylum guards, would subsequently play the title role in the television series Conan (1997).
