Max (Jason Schwartzman) asks the headmaster (Brian Cox) not to expel him, for "old times' sake", echoing a scene in Il padrino (1972), when Tessio (Abe Vigoda) asks Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall) to get him out of being executed, "for old times' sake." Brian Cox plays Marlon Brando in Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon (2016). Schwartzman's mother, Talia Shire, played Brando's daughter in the film.
