At the time of filming, the California Angels finished the 1993 season with 71 wins and 91 losses, which was good enough for fifth place in the American League West, while the Chicago White Sox, who played the heavies in the film posted a record of 94 wins and 68 losses, finishing in first place in the West that season. Following the season, the White Sox, along with the Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals would move from the West into the newly formed American League Central Division for the 1994 season.
