Sam Rockwell was not the original choice to play Inspector Stoppard. Back around 2016 or 2017, when this film was in the early stages of development by 20th Century Fox Studios, the first choice was Hugh Grant with Keira Knightley approached to play Constable Stalker. However the project was put on hiatus after Disney announced they were going to buy 20th Century Fox in late 2017. When the film was resurrected and work on the script began in 2020 both actors were no longer in the frame and the film was recast.
