Steven Spielberg had enjoyed Kathryn Morris' performance in Rod Lurie's The Contender (2000) so he gave her a small part in A.I. - Intelligenza artificiale (2001). However, Morris' scenes ended up being cut, so Spielberg gave her the part of Lara to make up for that.
