Three years before this film's release, Gene Roddenberry had come up with an idea for a new science fiction series called "Andromeda". But the series did not hit television screens until 2000, as Andromeda (2000), after Majel Barrett dug up her husband's notes on the series in his archive. Sadly, Gene Roddenberry never lived to see the series, on account of his death on October 24, 1991.
