In close ups of the US Naval vessels, only post war 3 inch electric radar controlled anti aircraft are shown. All the WWII era 40 mm quadruple mount Bofors anti aircraft guns had been retired and removed from the ships. The reason was the new proximity fuse that made shells explode near a plane rather than having to hit it, would not fit in the 40mm projectile, but would fit in the 3 inch or 76mm projectile.There is one single mount Bofors gun shown on shore at the end of the scene when Admiral Torrey arrives on Gavavutu and the jeep drives off the pier on the way for him to meet his staff.
