Award-winning Indigenous musician Archie Roach was chosen to perform the vocals for the film's songs and and sang live during some screenings of the film at the Adelaide Festival of Arts in 2002. The live performance was an idea Rolf de Heer devised to suit the "spirit of the Festival". A version of this film with all the sound except the music was shown at the 2002 Adelaide Festival of Arts "with the band and singer, and songs and background music, played live, all in sync to the film," de Heer explained.
