Chris Farley asked writer Mitch Klebanoff if they could integrate more father-son-brother moments into the film (because Chris's family, especially his father, meant so much to him, personally). When Klebanoff pitched this to director Dennis Dugan, he replied, "Mitch, it's about a fat guy in a ninja suit... that's it", and dismissed the idea.
