The original and theatrical endings slightly mirror one another when it comes to Luc and Veronica's climactic embrace. In both cases, one of them was hugging the other one due to him or her almost getting killed horrifically and enduring the trauma. In the original ending, after she couldn't keep her composure and emotions in check while trying to report on the Universal Soldier program on live television, Veronica ended up comforting Luc, who was critically injured, after he was nearly killed by Dr. Gregor's men who gunned him down. In the theatrical ending, after defeating and killing Andrew, Luc ended up comforting Veronica, who was seriously injured, after she was nearly killed by the grenade Andrew threw at her during the long climactic fight.
