The real-life pre-dreadnought battleship Potemkin was scrapped in 1923; the film used another Black Sea Fleet pre-dreadnought to represent her, Dvenadsat Apostolov ("Twelve Apostles"), which was being used as a storage hulk in Sevastopol.
