During the finale, when the Elder Predator hands Danny Glover the gun dating from 1715, Jim Thomas and John Thomas had conceived an idea for a possible Predator movie which would have taken place in the past where there were no modern weapons available to combat them, much like the finale of the original Predator (1987). Although the sequels Predators (2010) and The Predator (2018) took place in the future, several short fan movies were made that were situated in the distant past, such as Predator: Dark Ages (2015) (during the Crusades) and Predator: Celtic Days (2017), which indeed took place in the 18th century and explained a possible origin of the gun. As of 2022, the prequel film Prey (2022) explains the origin of the pistol.
