Morris Kessler's real-life counterpart was Martin Krugman. Krugman was a hair dresser/wig salesman as well as an associate of the Lucchese Crime Family and the Vario Crew's bookmaker. Unlike Chuck Low's physical portrayal, Krugman was a short, slender man who wore glasses and suffered from hyperthyroidism. He, along with Jimmy Burke, were the alleged masterminds behind the Lufthansa Heist, and two employees of the German airline were the inside men who had massive gambling debts owed to Krugman. Although it showed Kessler/Krugman being murdered by Tommy DeVito/DeSimone in the movie, it was DeSimone who disappeared first and presumed murdered while Krugman's disappearance/murder came after in January 1979. After Krugman was declared legally dead in 1986, his widow received his death benefit of more than $100k. In the Cop and Crook Commentary of the Goodfellas DVD, Martin Krugman was mentioned by Henry Hill as being a close friend of his, but his named was bleeped out.
