Commander Eddington comments, "You don't understand the love between ships and sailors." Actor Kirk Douglas would know of the love because he served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a communications officer on board USS PC-1139 and was medically discharged in 1944 following an accident involving a prematurely detonating depth charge.
