The character of journalist Vicki Vale (the film's female lead) was co-created by writer Bill Finger and artists Bob Kane and Lew Schwartz in 1948. She was used as a regular member of Batman's supporting cast until 1964, when editor Julius Schwartz decided to phase out many Batman-related characters. Vicki was revived in 1977, and she has sporadically been used as a supporting character over the following decades.
