Mackenzie Phillips got the part of Carol when she was 12 years old. Her parents put her on a plane with a suitcase and sent her on her way with no chaperon or arrangements for living while she filmed. The producer took her in and had to get a legal guardianship over her since she had no one there. Almost immediately after filming, her father John Phillips and his wife Geneviève Waïte sent her off to a boarding school in Switzerland. When she returned, this film had been released, and she was shocked when people knew her from it.
