By 2000, British archivists found another missing piece of Eichmann's records. Known as the Hoefle telegram, this encoded message escaped scrutiny due to a typographical error. Now researchers realized the telegram was a report to Eichmann of the railway headcount to the extermination camps, e.g. "resettlement" to the East. During the 2000 trial, defense lawyers proved to the court that people were carried on the German Reichsbahn railway at a rate of 4 pfennigs a head. The final destination of these people: the death camps Belzec, Treblinka, Sobibor, Majdenek.
