As mentioned in the Film, the Emperor at the time was Titus, who had only just ascended 2 months before the eruption. Titus ruled for only 26 months, but would see Rome through two massive tragedies. The first, portrayed in the film, was the eruption of Vesuvius, the second, however, was the devastating burning of Rome in 80 AD.
