Dakota Johnson said in the Autumn/Winter 2015 issue of AnOther magazine that she was already deep in ballet training to prepare for the film. In November 2015, director Luca Guadagnino said in an interview with Italian website Daruma View, that Tilda Swinton would be in the movie along with Johnson, and filming would begin in 2016.
