According to an interview with Peter Fonda, his betrayal of the character Terry Valentine was modeled partly on "The Monkees" producer and co-founder of Raybert and BBS, Bert Schneider. Raybert produced Fonda's film "Easy Rider" in 1969. Fonda's character's name may also be an allusion "Elmer Valentine", co-founder of the Whiskey A Go-Go and The Roxy.
