Nobu served as a representative for a Japanese Yakuza group in Wilson Fisks crime cartel. The appearance of his outfit when he fought Daredevil and his ability to lower his heartbeat (which allows him to approach Daredevil without triggering his Radar Sense) is based off the Hand, an evil Ninja group of assassins that were originally introduced in the Daredevil comics during the Frank Miller run. Nobu's affiliation with the Hand would later be confirmed when the group becomes the central antagonist for season two.
