The rusting vehicle the trio come to in the Zone is a 1938 Ford V8 with a custom "bus" body built in Berlin that was used by film companies in Estonia as a production truck. It contained sound recording equipment and places on the roof for a camera and boom microphone. It was driven to Leningrad (St. Petersburg) in 1941 when the Germans invaded and somehow managed to survive the siege of that city during WWII. After the war it was returned to Estonia where it resumed its pre-war function. It wasn't until this picture's filming in 1977-78 when it met its demise as it was stripped, set on fire and placed in the field to rust. Inside the vehicle can be glimpsed a German MG 34 machine gun. Behind this vehicle is a mix of German and Soviet WWII-era tanks.
