An emergency distress call is transmitted to Sky Captain by means of visible radio waves, coming from a radio tower that is unrealistically large and out of proportion in relation to the size of the Earth. This is a reference to R.K.O. Radio Pictures, Inc., whose logo features an abnormally large radio tower sitting on top of the Earth, emitting visible radio waves.
