"Rent" is based on the book "Scènes de la vie de bohème / Scenes from the life at Boheme" written by Henri Murger. The book is the basis not only for the Broadway musical "Rent" which the film is adapted from, but also for the operas "La bohème" by Giacomo Puccini and "La bohème" by Ruggero Leoncavallo, the zarzuela "Bohemios" by Amadeu Vives and the operetta "Das Veilchen vom Montmartre" by Emmerich Kálmán.
