The film introduces a film version of Alfred Pennyworth, Batman's butler and right-hand-man. The character was created by writer Don Cameron and artists Bob Kane in 1943, under the name "Alfred Beagle". He was originally intended as a comic relief character for the Batman series, but he was eventually reinterpreted as a far more serious and competent assistant for Batman.
