Because it was ultimately distributed by them theatrically, this marks the first- and so far, the only - time Clint Eastwood directed a film for Columbia Pictures. At the time, the studio was Castle Rock's distributor in the U.S., a relationship that would gradually disintegrate in the next few years after. As mentioned in another trivia note, it would gradually trickle down to Warner Bros. for release in any other capacity necessary. Clint previously worked for Columbia (and Castle Rock) one other time prior on In the Line of Fire (1993). That one stayed with Columbia because they were involved in producing the film as well as distributing.
