Some of Bogart's dialogue to Scott in this film is similar to that in The Maltese Falcon, when Sam doesnt believe Brigid's lies or claims of love. Near the end, in the car, Dusty shoots Rip point blank in his right side, which should have been fatal. Yet soon, in the hospital, after the car crashes, we see him with his left arm in a sling, a mild injury, and Dusty with no facial injuries and a full face of makeup.
