The plane Eddington takes to find the Japanese fleet is a "PBJ-1" "PB" stands for Patrol Bomber and "J" indicates the manufacturer as North American Aviation. This is the Navy version of the B-25 Mitchell Bomber. The Navy relied on the PBJ as a radar picket but the Marine Corps used them as tactical bombers and strafers. Also, the one used in the Doolittle Raid was launched from an aircraft carrier.
