Gregory Peck disliked his performance as Captain Ahab so much that even nearly 20 years later, he refused to give permission to Steven Spielberg to use a scene from Moby Dick - La balena bianca (1956) in Lo squalo (1975). Spielberg's original idea was to introduce his star Robert Shaw sitting in a movie theater watching Moby Dick, laughing loudly at the screen. Gregory Peck did not object to appear in such a scene, but he objected that it was his Ahab performance, which he vehemently disliked, so he refused permission.
